Have you ever purchased a Buy 1 Get 1 free offers product from your local grocery store? Most probably yes!,
I am damn sure you did it.But Question is have you ever compared and calculated the deal and tried to find out that if you really won buying that offer product?
Most probably you did not tried to do it ever. For your surprise let me compare it. Recently I discovered a marketing trick which I assume worth sharing.let’s analyse if Buy 1Get 1 free offers Win or Loss? Are they just clever Marketing Gimmicks?
I am a regular consumer of Dabur honey & purchased Dabur honey for my needs as usual. It comes in many styles of packaging & the product is very decent.
So, last time I went for regular shopping, I saw an attractive offer on this product, ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free’.
Here I was getting 2 units of products for the price of 1 unit of product – MRP Rs 280/-. So, basically here I was getting saving of Rs 280. I didn’t made any second thought, and I purchased it.

Obviously I was extremely happy on my way back home as honey is an expensive item & I consume it on a daily basis.
Later that same day, when I was inffree time and also when my Analyst mind woke up, I thought of calculating the actual profit I got & the Analysis results are as follows:
For this, I simply checked the volume & price for each item. For simplicity, I have numbered them as given.
I regularly buy items 1 & 2, and I bought item 3 on offer. So, let’s check the grams of honey I am getting at Rs 1 for each item.
Item 1
Net quantity – 300g
MRP – Rs 110
After discount,
I get it at Rs 100 Grams of honey for 1 rupee – 300/100 = 3.00 gms
Item 2
Net quantity – 600g
MRP – Rs 199
After discount, I get it at Rs 190
Grams of honey for 1 rupee – 600/190 = 3.15gms
So, in normal case, I am getting around 3g of honey for Rs 1. Now, thinking logically, when I buy on offer “Buy 1 Get 1”, I should get around twice the quantity I get normally at Rs 1. Let’s check it out.
Item 3
Net quantity – 400g in 1 pack, so 800g in 2
MRP – Rs 280
After discount, you will get it at Rs 266
Grams of honey for 1 rupee – 800/266 = 3.007 gms
So, here actually You are getting the same quantity of honey even after “Buy 1 Get 1” offer. In fact, it is a loss, if you buy item 3 without “Buy 1 Get 1” offer.
